So I've been playing host the past few nights to Cesar and his cousins, but after yet another rowdy night they are gone. Cesar missed his train and sent me a message from Florence asking me if his cousins were at my place. Oh the thrills of international travel. Any who, last night our friend Nancy had her friend Danielle come into town so we decided to go out. Nancy has a $5,000 apartment for just her. Its 3 stories, 2 bathrooms, and looks like a porn set. We met up there and shared a few bottles of wine before embarking in the piazza repubblica district of the city. We ate at this place that looked like a diner, but the food was decent, not great but decent. I ordered completely in italian "Saltambuca e patata arrosto e insalata misto e gran fritto misto" Saltimbuca meat with rosted potatoes and a mixed salad as well as the mixed fried platter. We got zucchini flowers and fried olives. Both were good but not something i'll bring home with me culinarily. We went to a little bar across the street afterword and hung out. I had an awkward encounter with the bartender, he was making this drink that looked awesome so i asked him in italian what it was called and he kept saying "yes" so i thought i'd said the wrong thing but turns out the drink's name was a yes, it was kind of a who's on first situation for a few moments.
Today I broke down and took my laundry to the only laundromat i could find, i pick it up at 7pm and i cant read the reciept very well, but it looks like it will cost me 60 euro which is ridiculous. I would wash the stuff in the sink, but sink is the size of a small pot. It mgiht be cheaper to take a taxi to the otherside of town to deal with this crap. They have a big open air market so i plodded around there and got some wild strawberries for breakfast. After that I went to the Roman National Musuem, which is a converted villa and has some famous statutes and such. There is a growing electricity in the air for the world cup, everyone is pumped, even though european soccer is extremely boring and uneventful. USA v. England on saturday, we're going to go to an irish pub and get rowdy with "USA USA USA" chants. Well as always it seems, i'm off to class, ciao!
